How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! Psalm 133:1 NLT
God has designed each of us to be relational by nature. We have an inner desire to have people around us and to be in a community (family) of people. Some people have personalities that require that more than others, but everyone needs someone in their life. Studies have shown that people who have little or no interaction with others live shorter lives than those who are surrounded by people.
The relationships we need, however, are the very ones that lead to conflict in relationships. Sometimes we have the hardest time getting along with the people we should be closest to. When conflict develops in a relationship the relationship can become awkward. During this series I want to examine awkward relationships and see how we, as believers, are to respond when relationships go bad.
Can I ask you to consider these questions? Do you have an awkward relationship in your life? Is there someone you should be close to, but to be honest your stomach turns just to think about them? The person may be a parent, a sibling, a child, a co-worker, a friend, a spouse or an ex-spouse, perhaps even a pastor or someone in the church, but they said something or did something that hurt you real bad. Now the relationship is severely strained at best.
This next question is huge. Will you allow God, if He should choose, to speak to your heart about this relationship during this series?
