For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about antoher day. Hebrews 4:8 NIV
Forty years were spent in the wilderness after the Israelites left the slavery of Egypt. Forty years of wandering; eating quail and manna; believing God, then doubting; obeying, then turning away from their faith. It was a long, hard life.
Then came Joshua. He was the crusader from God who would lead God's people into the Promise Land. Under his leadership, the Israelites would enjoy a land flowing with milk and honey. They were to experience great victories in battle and be rewarded from generation to generation for their faithfulness.
One might have thought it was over, but it wasn't. There was still work to be done for the Kingdom of God. God still required obedience! There was no final rest for the people. Oh, but it would surely come!
Do you ever need rest? Are there days in your life when you just don't think you can go on anymore? Are you tired, spent, worn out from your labor, from the burdens found in a fallen world?
Don't despair! God is still in control. Your rest awaits. Praise God, there still remains for the people of God a Sabbath Rest! One day, in a flash, at the twinkling of an eye, those who remain shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air and we will be changed! We will finally find rest!
We will share in the glory of Christ and enjoy an eternity of peace and joy beyond our present ability to comprehend. REST! REST! REST! Rest is coming to the people of God!
Hold on! Your rest is on its way! Soon and very soon!
